A Very Improbable Story

Math can be scary right? Math can be a lot of work, right? Math can be boring at times too, right? Well math can be interesting and fun at times too. You guys may not agree and think math is the best subject but I am going to read you guys a book dealing with math. "A Very Improbably Story" by Edward Einhorn is about a little boy named Ethan. Ethan wakes up one day to find a random cat stuck on his head. The cats name so happens to be "Odds". The cat will not get off Ethan's head until he plays a game of probability but he also has to win the game too. For example, he has to find a dime within all of his change, two matching socks from his dresser, and many other things. If he doesn't win the game, Odds, the cat will not move from his head. The big problem of the cat not leaving Ethan's head is he has his soccer game he has to go to, and you can't really play a soccer game with a cat stuck to your head.
This is a great book when you are starting to introduce probability into your classroom. A lot of the time when you teach or even bring up math a lot of students have a negative outlook on Math. I think the main students think bad about not only Math but other subjects in general is because some of their teachers don't think of fun ways and activities to implement in the lesson. They will just cover the material they need to cover and expect the students to learn it. Even just reading a book like this one before the actual lesson can make the students more interested in the actual lesson.
