A Very Improbable Story

Image
Math can be scary right? Math can be a lot of work, right? Math can be boring at times too, right? Well math can be interesting and fun at times too. You guys may not agree and think math is the best subject but I am going to read you guys a book dealing with math. "A Very Improbably Story" by Edward Einhorn is about a little boy named Ethan. Ethan wakes up one day to find a random cat stuck on his head. The cats name so happens to be "Odds". The cat will not get off Ethan's head until he plays a game of probability but he also has to win the game too. For example, he has to find a dime within all of his change, two matching socks from his dresser, and many other things. If he doesn't win the game, Odds, the cat will not move from his head. The big problem of the cat not leaving Ethan's head is he has his soccer game he has to go to, and you can't really play a soccer game with a cat stuck to your head.       This is a great book when you a...

Today kids we are going to be learning about stars. Raise your hand if you have ever walked outside and seen a bunch of stars in the sky? Stars can light up a dark sky and they are very pretty to look at. But do you know what stars actually are and how did they get there? If not, we are going to learn about it today! In this book, "Star Stuff" by Stephanie Sisson, it teaches you all about stars. Carl is the main character in this book, he is a young boy who went to the World's Fair 1939 and has been fascinated with stars ever since. In the book it goes through stages in Carl's life. He started out just looking at stars throughout his bedroom window, and ended up going really far in life relating to stars. We will have to read the book to see what happens to Carl! I think this book is a great book for teaching students about stars. I have heard many kids go outside and be so interested in stars and ask so many questions about it. I've even heard children say...

Social Studies!

"The Flag We Love" by Pam Munoz Ryan and illustrated by Ralph Masiello is a great book for children. Everyday children (in most schools) stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and The National Anthem but its rare that any of them know the true meaning behind it and why they are even doing it. In this book it introduces to children what our flag represents and the meaning why we even do the Pledge and National Anthem. If you just did one whole lesson explaining to young children about this they wouldn't really take much from it and get bored with it. This book has illustrations on every page, that are fun and bright to really catch attention. Although this book is leaning more towards younger audience this is a book teens and even adults would enjoy reading!
